For more than a decade, I lived by a dangerous motto, “I’ll rest when I’m done.”

But here’s the truth: you’re never “done” when you’re building something great. There’s always another client to serve, another contract to chase, another fire to put out. And before you know it, years have passed, and you’ve been running nonstop, on pure determination and fumes.

That was me for years.

When I launched Express Errands & Courier back in 2012, I didn’t take a single day off for the first 11 years. No weekends. No birthdays. No holidays. I was in full grind mode, trying to make sure the business stayed afloat, the bills got paid, and the dream didn’t die.

I told myself, “Once I reach this milestone, I’ll slow down.”
Then the milestone came and went… and I still didn’t stop.

The Wake-Up Call

Eventually, my body, and my spirit, forced me to slow down. I was tired in a way that sleep couldn’t fix. And I realized something that changed my entire approach to success:

Rest isn’t a reward. It’s part of the work.

Rest doesn’t mean you’ve stopped growing; it means you’re creating space to grow again.

When I finally took a vacation, a real one, I remember sitting on a cruise ship, watching the ocean, and feeling peace for the first time in years. That quiet moment reminded me that success isn’t just about how much you can do, it’s also about how well you can be.

Hustle Culture Lied to Us

Somewhere along the way, entrepreneurs got convinced that rest equals laziness. But the truth is, overworking isn’t strength, it’s survival mode dressed up as ambition.

When you’re constantly running on empty, you make reactive decisions instead of strategic ones. You start losing creativity. Your patience runs short. You stop seeing the big picture.

I used to wear exhaustion like a badge of honor, until I realized it was actually slowing me down. Once I started creating boundaries, taking real time off, and trusting my team to handle things, my business grew faster than ever.

Because when you’re rested, you lead better. You think clearer. You communicate stronger.

Rest Creates Renewal

Rest doesn’t always look like a tropical vacation (though I’m never mad at one). Sometimes it’s a quiet morning without emails. A long walk. Dinner with family.
It’s the ability to pause and breathe, without guilt.

I had to learn that my worth wasn’t tied to my productivity.
I could still be a CEO and take a nap.
I could still be ambitious and unplug for the weekend.

You can’t pour into others, or your business, from an empty cup.

As We Celebrate Thanksgiving

This week, I hope you give yourself permission to rest, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. You’ve worked hard all year, and you deserve a moment to be present, grateful, and proud of how far you’ve come.

Rest doesn’t make you weak. It makes you wise.

And if you’re reading this thinking, “I don’t even know how to slow down,”, I’ve been there too. That’s exactly why I created my Driven For Success Network (DFSN), a group coaching community designed for entrepreneurs who want to grow without burning out.

Inside DFSN, we focus on building sustainable success, the kind that allows you to breathe, delegate, and still scale your business. You’ll get real accountability, honest support, and a network of entrepreneurs walking the same journey.

You don’t have to build alone, and you don’t have to sacrifice yourself to succeed.

Final Thoughts

This Thanksgiving, I’m not just thankful for what I’ve built.
I’m thankful for peace.
For boundaries.
For rest.

If you’ve been in constant hustle mode, this is your reminder to pause, breathe, and remember that you are the foundation of your business. Without you, there is no dream.

So this holiday season, give yourself the gift we all overlook: rest.
Because sometimes, doing nothing for a moment is exactly what your next level needs.

Happy Thanksgiving
Roslyn
