Let me take you back to 2012.
I was running errands for people across eastern North Carolina—literally. That was the seed that would grow into Express Errands & Courier, a company now headquartered in Atlanta and operating across multiple states. But here’s the thing: back then, it was just me and a Chrysler Pacifica, with a whole lot of ambition and not a lot of answers.
If you’re building something on the side right now—after your 9-to-5, while the kids are sleeping, or between shifts—I see you. And I’m here to tell you: yes, you can turn your side hustle into a real, sustainable, six-figure (or more) business. But you’ve got to scale strategically.
Let’s talk about how.
1. Validate Before You Elevate
Before you hire, before you rebrand, before you drop thousands into ads—validate that there’s demand for what you’re offering. Ask: Do people want this, and will they pay for it at scale?
Pro Tip: Look at repeat business, customer feedback, and referrals. These are green lights for growth.
2. Build Systems Early
The biggest mistake I see side hustlers make? Waiting too long to build systems. Start now. Document your processes. Automate what you can. Don’t wait until you’re overwhelmed and buried in tasks.
Tools I swear by: Asana, Dubsado, Calendly, QuickBooks, and Zapier.
3. Don’t Just Work In the Business—Work On It
When it’s a one-woman or one-man show, it’s easy to get caught in the daily grind. But to scale, you need to think like a CEO. That means stepping back, planning, delegating, and leading.
Set time aside each week to review your business performance, set goals, and refine your strategy.
4. Grow With People, Not Just Projects
I scaled because I invested in the right people—not just in hiring but also in mentorship and partnerships. Collaboration has been a secret weapon in building multiple successful ventures.
Remember: The right person can open doors a marketing budget never could.
5. Keep the Mission Bigger Than the Money
Money is fuel, not the destination. Your “why” needs to be rock solid—especially when scaling gets tough (because trust me, it will). My mission has always been to create access, uplift communities, and build generational wealth. That’s what keeps me going.
Final Thoughts
You don’t have to have it all figured out. But you do need to take the next intentional step.
Scaling isn’t about overnight success—it’s about sustained strategy. And if I can go from running errands in one city to leading three companies, so can you.
Let’s build empires, not just businesses.
